Everyone Safe Passage

Updated: Jul 8

ree

Everyone Safe Passage was formed as an Old Agoura "Friends of the Board" project with the vision to live in a community with trails rather than sidewalks that make pedestrians feel safe! Our mission is to work with members of our community and the City of Agoura Hills to increase safety on the streets by creating pathways and providing education and communication to the various groups that use them.

Streets and Pathways

UPDATE: June 25, 2025:

Jess Thomas, president of the Old Agoura Homeowners, and Cyrena Nouzille, Board Member at Large, met with city staff on Chesebro to determine interim repairs to Chesebro Road due to water run-off and winter floods. While the major reconstruction of Chesebro Road will not begin until July 2026, some temporary roadway and shoulder repairs will be made this summer.

UPDATE 5/14/25

Cyrena Nouzille, Carolyn Trocino, and George Colman attended the City Council Goal Setting Workshop. At 21:30, Carolyn and Cyrena spoke on behalf of the Old Agoura Homeowners Board of Directors and the Everyone Safe Passage project. They focused on supporting the Public Works subcommittee's plan to rehabilitate Chesebro Road from the park entrance to the City's northern limits in early Fiscal Year 26/27. They also supported the continued implementation of the Trails Master Plan and the maintenance, repair, and construction of Old Agoura's trails. The goal under consideration was the design of trails and bikeway improvements in Old Agoura. The plan is to budget consulting fees for the design phase through the end of 2027.

Please look at 1:50:17 to see the recommended goals and possible alternatives. There was consensus on the first-year recommendations of $60k, and all felt the trails were a priority. This is a win for dog walkers, runners, equestrians, and all who visit Old Agoura!

UPDATE 3/8/25 - Here is information from Charmaine Yambao, Senior Civil Engineer in the Public Works Department:

The update provided is on the City's annual pavement rehabilitation program. For this fiscal year, the program includes design of the improvements to Colodny, Chesebro (north of the Chesebro park entrance to the City limits right around Fairview), and the corner of Fairview and Driver.

A topographical survey was completed for the areas listed above, and staff is working on getting design proposals for the project, which will include roadway and drainage improvements. As part of the design proposal, we are asking for an optional task of "trail concept and layout".

From the survey, these two roadways pose some challenges when designing to include drainage improvements. Depending on available funding and goals, the start of construction on the roadway improvements would be by the end of Fiscal Year 2025-26 and straddle into the beginning of Fiscal Year 2026-27. We typically construct pavement projects in the summer, when school is out of session.

The Trail feature and grant funding would be at the direction of the City Council. A place to start is at the goal setting workshops, which are part of the budget setting process.  The City adopts a two-fiscal year budget.  Currently, staff is preparing to start its next 2-year budget cycles, with goal setting workshops starting in March.
