Horse facilities.
As a rural equestrian community, maintaining the ability to keep horses and livestock is part of the City's Old Agoura Overlay plan; even if you do not intend to keep animals, dedicate a viable area on your property in perpetuity.
Dark skies.
Our lovely Old Agoura neighborhood might seem rather dark at night. In keeping with the rural ambiance, we do not have streetlights. Avoid light pollution in your designs with downward lights.
Defensible spaces.
Wildfires are a common threat. Practice best management and be prepared for a fire. Have an evacuation plan for your household, including animals.
Heritage trees.
Oaks and heritage trees are an integral part of the character of Old Agoura. These trees are a community asset by providing environmental benefits such as cooler summer temperatures, pollution filtration, sustaining wildlife habitat, and preventing soil erosion. Seek a City permit for any encroachment.
Softscaping.
Seasonal rain runoff draining to the neighborhood's streams provides groundwater repatriation. Less hardscaping slows its flow.
